Management CPC - New Proposed Structure for 2012
New proposed Management CPC Structure for 2012
Although some items regarding the structure and organisation of the CPC examinations for 2012 are known, not everything has yet been finalised regarding EU Regulation 1071/2009.
Updates so far:-
The Examination Syllabus
Where subjects were previously duplicated in both the National and International syllabuses, they have now been combined. One or two areas have been removed eg Lighting Regulations. Centres should be receiving the new syllabus shortly from OCR.
The Examination Structure
The new structure will comprise of 1 x 2 hour multi-choice examination, covering topics from the previous Unit 1, 2 and 6 multi-choice papers, 1 x 2 hour case study examination. The case study examination is likely to contain a question with an international flavour, this may be a driver's schedule for a journey to another EU Member State - but there does not appear to be case study questioning on topics such as international customs and transit procedures.
There is no final agreement on the marks awarded, but it would appear that the multi-choice paper would carry the larger percentage of pass marks which could have around 80 questions.
The future case study paper is still under review, but with the paper carrying fewer marks, this could lead to changes in the numbers of questions, the style of questioning and the allocation of marks. At present most case study marks are currently awarded to candidates for writing down simple facts. In future, examinations might require candidtaes to outline courses of action and to provide reasoning to justify those courses of action. Following the alterations it may well be that the pre-release of the scenario would be stopped.
Examination Organisation
OCR (who it appears are the only one carrying out the development so far) is likely to offer paper based examinations on the same four times per year basis as at present. It has also said that it will consider making on screen testing available for the multi-choice paper.
Course Duration
The increase in the subject areas for the combined National/International to be covered will mean an effect on course lengths. With the information we have so far it would appear that there could be an additional 2 or 3 days to the present course duration.
Existing CPC Holders
It has been stated that any existing National CPC holders may continue to use their qualification on Standard National '0' Licences. Holders of the National CPC who would require the International will need to take the additional extra examination to add the International aspect to their CPC. Such people will be able to take current Unit 6 examinations during 2012 (and even possibly even 2013).
